Form

On the day of surgery

  • Wear comfortable unrestrictive clothing
  • Remove all nail polish and make-up
  • Shower or bath the morning of your operation
  • Remove all jewellery except your wedding ring

What To Bring

  • Sleepwear, dressing gown and slippers
  • Personal toilet articles
  • Recent X-rays
  • Recent test results (within the last six months)
  • Medicare card
  • Your Hospital/Medical Benefits Fund card
  • Any pharmacy entitlement cards for prescriptions
  • All current medications (in their original packaging)
  • Please do not bring valuables or jewellery
  • A small amount of cash for incidentals only
  • Favourite toy or cuddly for children

Allocation of Accommodation in the Hospital
Every effort will be made to provide you with the type of accommodation requested. Sometimes it is not possible to allocate private rooms at the time of admission, however we will transfer you as soon as possible to your requested accommodation.

Same Day Patients
With advances in technology an increasing numbers of procedures can be performed and the patient discharged home on the same day.

Your doctor will give you instructions regarding fasting (no food or fluid) requirements.  This information will be given to you prior to admission.  All patients who undergo a day procedure will require transport home and adult supervision overnight.

General

Telephones – A telephone is available for your use during your stay.  There is no charge for local calls, however STD, ISD and mobile calls will be charged to your account.  For the convenience of your family and friends, every phone has a direct dial number which is printed on the telephone.

    Patient Entertainment – a television and selected radio stations are provided free of charge to each patient bed.

Catering – Our catering staff are proficient in the planning and preparation of attractive and nutritious meals.  If the menu offered does not cover your individual needs, please advise a member of the catering or nursing staff and we will attempt to provide for your special requirements.  Please note that due to health and safety regulations, Catering staff are not permitted to handle or reheat food for a patient where this food has been cooked outside the hospital premises.

Pharmacy – Pharmacy services for the hospital are provided 24 hours per day by an external pharmacy provider.  The pharmacy service will bill patients independently of the hospital for all medications purchased that do not relate specifically to the hospital admission, in addition to all discharge medications (with the exception of DVA members).  Any medications brought into the hospital by patients are to be handed to a member of the nursing staff on admission.

Pathology – an on-site pathology service is provided, and most pathology tests are bulk billed.  Should you have any queries regarding your account, please contact the service provider directly.

Physiotherapy – Private practitioners provide physiotherapy services to patients.  Most health funds cover the costs of this service, however you should check with your individual fund.

Radiology – Radiology services are provided on-site, and will be billed to you directly.  Please ensure you take home all X-rays as we are unable to store these on site.

Laundry – we regret that we are unable to provide a laundry service for personal items.  Please arrange for your family or friends to look after your personal laundry requirements.

Smoking – The hospital has a No Smoking Policy, and patients and visitors must not smoke within the hospital building, or within 5 metres of any entrance.
